Race for Life

By Samantha Parker on May 5, 09 11:25 PM in

My friend Pippa and I are running the Race for Life at Birkenhead Park only July 5th and i'm doing it dressed as a bride.

The first time I ran the Race for Life was 19th June 2005, the day before Mummy was buried. I have run it every year since and done so with one thought, more of a hope, in my mind. To beat cancer.

Soon after my mum died Cancer Research started running an advert on TV of a bride on her wedding day in tears because her mum wasn't there.

Bloody thing floored me everytime I watched it. That's me now and I don't want it to be someone else. People die of cancer every day but its slowing down. I want to help that.

I may only rasie £250 but it is something isn't it?

I just put my link on my twitter page (follow me - samanthaparker) and already someone I only know through twitter has sponsored me £5 which is incredibly touching.
The gentleman in question is also on weightwatcehrs and has been giving me great tips! So I am blown away by his generosity.

As the weight is starting to fall off again (woohoo!!) I have decided I am going to run it this time. I said that last year but running at Aintree was really difficult as you are running on uneven ground thanks to the horses!

So if you are at the Brikenhead event and see a mad redhead who is bright red and sweating dressed as a bride and is slowing down give her a nudge. I will need it!!

This is what I worte on my page

Thank you so much for sponsoring me!

The first time I ran the Race for Life was the day before Mummy's funeral, June 19th 2005, I found the race hard (was overweight due to all that comfort food and very unfit) but rewarding and have done it every year since.

This year I will be running as a bride in memory of the Mother of the Bride. I am getting married on September 4 to a man Mummy never had the pleasure of meeting. I know she would have loved him.

Planning my wedding has been really hard, I have missed her every step of the way as she would have revelled in her role.

But she isn't here. She died of lung cancer on June 10, 2005. I know she will be watching me but my god it isn't the same. Please dig deep. We need to stop this evil disease.
